The Curmudgeonly Evangelical vs the Nice Post-Evangelical Smackdown!
What happens when little old bob goes toe to toe with evangelical powerhouse Douglas Groothuis???

Well, it's kind of like this...

I find myself once again defending Don Miller from critics...
Don is such a sweet guy...
A lot of people I know and love have been profoundly impacted by his books...
Anyway, Dr Groothuis got medieval on Don's ass, and I just couldn't not say something...
So I told him to be nice!
A couple of times...
I held my ground...
I was dishing up the Word like a short order cook at the Waffle House during the breakfast rush!
And in the end? He changed the word "idiocy" in the first paragraph to "irrationality"
Ding Ding!
Round One to the "nice people"!!!
But seriously, that was cool of him to change it...
Next up for Bob vs Doug- Let's talk about women in ministry!!!
Ding!
(mroew!!!)
UPDATE: Apparently, the heat got to be too much because the entire blog entry has been exiled from the kitchen... gone. Poof! 1 scathing, scaulding review of Blue Like Jazz replaced with an ode to John Coltrane. Oh well... :) Fun working with you, Doug!

I can't wait to see round 2! :)
I know this has nothing to do with the post, or original article, but Dr. G is one nerdy looking cat.
now, now...
mreow!
:)
I agree with your stance here Bob. I loved Blue Like Jazz and ead it for what it is a memoir and was thoroughly blessed. I am disappointed in the arrogance and mean spiritedness of Doug's words.
Interestingly though, I think you and Doug would quite agree with women in ministry. His wife is a staunch advocate of Egalitarianism. Here is her website if your interested http://ivpress.gospelcom.net/groothuis/rebecca/
ahhhh... very interesting.
I'm an idiot.
(See, Dr. Groothuis, it's okay if you call yourself that!)
I had assumed, based on a seriously scathing review that Dr. G gave to Sarah Sumner's book here, that his position was probably complementarian. Now, maybe it is, and he and his wife agree to disagree on this one...
Or maybe his harsh review of a book actually gets in the way of thhe reader of said review understanding that he actually agrees with the author he's reviewing???
See... you should be nicer. It would be easier on eveyone involved...
Oh- and also note. Way more people liked my review than his. DING DING! Round 2 to Bob!!! :)
Bob-- did you notice the link to his Miller review is gone?
I guess that kung fu cat fight achieved more than you expected...
umm...yep, guess i could have read your update.
Bro, have you seen THIS? Was the acrimonious tone he was talking about his own? Or was he referring to others? I'm confused?
Wow... that cracks me up. Wish I had archived the conversation... But I'm glad Prof. Groothuis could see that his acrimony was out of place and needed to be deleted!
:D
